Breastfeeding with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
Journey by Radhika, Tampa, FL
Like every other girl Radhika hoped breastfeeding would come naturally, but in reality she struggled to produce enough milk but wanted to breastfeed. Even when she was doing all the “right” things, low milk supply made her more anxious.
Excerpts From Radhika’s Interview With MOMSHUBBUB
Radhika discussed her view on PCOS:
“I wasn’t educated about how PCOS can affect my milk supply. During my first pregnancy, I was getting frustrated, blamed myself for not trying hard enough. But in my second pregnancy as a new mommy I got all the information and resources at Laylas’s House Tampa bay.
I met an IBCLC lactation consultant, she explained to me how PCOS can sometimes influence milk production.”
Some mothers blame themselves or feel judged for not “trying hard enough”. Feeling Anxious when breastfeeding doesn’t happen the way you wished is overwhelming.
MOMSHUBBUB’s Goal Here Is To Create Awareness
Do not compare yourself with the most popular belief around you. You are unique and special. Making peace with a low milk supply simply means accepting those feelings that come to the surface. Acknowledge your emotions and hang on to them, figure out what is more important to you and your baby. Last but not least you are not alone in this journey.
