THIS BABY IS NOT FOR TURNING!

On this day my ECV was scheduled!

External cephalic version(ECV) is an attempt to turn the fetus so that he or she is head down, and can improve your chance of a normal delivery.

How is ECV executed?
When your baby is greater than 36 weeks your health care professionals suggest ECV, they check his/her position via ultrasound and physically applying pressure externally they try to turn baby into normal position.

How was my experience?
Before my ECV, I had given instructions not to eat anything nor to drink water for more than 12+ hours. Can you imagine a pregnant women with a full term baby in her womb cannot consume anything before this procedure.
After a lot of hustle I was admitted and my doctor tried to move my daughter externally.
She didn’t turn! Instead she was kicking out doctor!
It was very unpleasant, I was quite traumatized after ECV, was unconscious for several minutes, was devastated knowing that this was my last chance for normal delivery.
They had kept me under observation for several hours.
I remember on my way back home I was so heartbroken.

This was the first time I said to myself that it’s perfectly okay not to be okay!
I was gradually transitional from a normal delivery mindset to a caesarean.

Why did I have so many doubts about caesarean?
The answer is society!
Cultural dimensions play a vital role in the way a woman perceives and prepares for her birthing experience.

One thing I’ve learned from this episode that life is so unpredictable, and sometimes it’s better to just go with the flow rather than try to plan everything out.
